I was never really a light sleeper and can fall into deep sleep pretty easily when I’m not going through a stressful period. I was also always quite particular with having a good night’s sleep all through out my youth often trying my best to catch a snooze during breaks or rush home to sleep before work the next day while friends partied till sunrise. That’s how it is when you’ve worked over 10 hours a day 6 days a week for years. Now, in my late 30s, I try to be in bed by 12am or earlier on busy days.
I was inspired to write this post from a Tiktok trend showing your sleep routine so I figured that I should share my own sleep routine and tips I’ve picked up from experience and what I’ve learned while working in the Beauty Industry. They don’t call it Beauty Sleep for nothing.
Make Your Bed a Sleep and Intimacy Only Zone
No Television in the Bedroom
I was quite firm with not having a television in our room. First reason is because I don’t think it’s necessary to have more than one television in our apartment in this day and age, we can always watch on our phones. It saves us money, electricity and most importantly, it doesn’t distract you from much needed sleep after a long day.
Go to Bed Only When You’re Tired
When my head touches my pillow, it won’t take long before I fall asleep because I’ve adjusted my body to the sleep rhythm.
Cleanse Your Mind and Body Before Sleep
Don’t Neglect Night Skincare Regime
Having a simple nightly skincare regime helps to prevent signs of aging. Your body regenerates every night (peaks from 2am during deep sleep) and the formulas in your skin care products assists with the process so do not miss that opportunity. Similarly, if you do not remove makeup or cleanse before deep sleep, your body, hair and skin will absorb all the bad stuff.
Have a Cup of Calming Tea
If you’re not a tea person, you’re missing out on the great medicinal benefits that teas provide! I love tea but it’s also important to know what blend of herbs to take before going to bed. I love a cup of Lavender Tea to help me feel more relaxed and calm.

Blend Essential Oils
Having a weft of the right essential oils helps me to doze off even when I’ve had a difficult day. All I need to do is add 3 drops into my Pure Essentials Diffuser. My favourite scent for sleep is Lavender and a drop of Eucalyptus.

Switch On the Air Purifier
I never knew what a difference an Air Purifier can do until we got Sterra Breeze Air Purifier. It helps to eliminate harmful air contaminants and bad odour so you can breathe better.

Comfortable Mattress and Pillows
A good mattress and pillows are crucial for a good sleep and your spinal health. We opted for the Marble Maranta Mattress and Marble Flex that helped to alleviate back pain and personalised and improve our sleep position. A Silk Pillowcase is gentle on your skin and hair causing less frizz and less wrinkles especially if you sleep on your sides like me.
In summary. adopting a good routine helps with improving sleep. Here are more helpful habits and tips you can incorporate into your Bedtime Routine.
