
I was never really a light sleeper and can fall into deep sleep pretty easily when I’m not going through a stressful period. I was also always quite particular with having a good night’s sleep all through out my youth often trying my best to catch a snooze during breaks or rush home to sleep before work the next day while friends partied till sunrise. That’s how it is when you’ve worked over 10 hours a day 6 days a week for years. Now, in my late 30s, I try to be in bed by 12am or earlier on busy days.
I was inspired to write this post from a Tiktok trend showing your sleep routine so I figured that I should share my own sleep routine and tips I’ve picked up from experience and what I’ve learned while working in the Beauty Industry. They don’t call it Beauty Sleep for nothing.
Make Your Bed a Sleep and Intimacy Only Zone
No Television in the Bedroom
I was quite firm with not having a television in our room. First reason is because I don’t think it’s necessary to have more than one television in our apartment in this day and age, we can always watch on our phones. It saves us money, electricity and most importantly, it doesn’t distract you from much needed sleep after a long day.
Go to Bed Only When You’re Tired
When my head touches my pillow, it won’t take long before I fall asleep because I’ve adjusted my body to the sleep rhythm.
Cleanse Your Mind and Body Before Sleep

Don’t Neglect Night Skincare Regime
Having a simple nightly skincare regime helps to prevent signs of aging. Your body regenerates every night (peaks from 2am during deep sleep) and the formulas in your skin care products assists with the process so do not miss that opportunity. Similarly, if you do not remove makeup or cleanse before deep sleep, your body, hair and skin will absorb all the bad stuff.
