Sophia Amoruso’s #GIRLBOSS is one of the most inspirational books I’ve read. It gives an insight into how she started out wearing used clothing and selling them on ebay. Since then, she has built an empire around her brand Nastygal and is spreading her message through her book. Here are my personal favourite illustrations and quotes from her book #GIRLBOSS.
“Magical thinking is the alchemy that you can use to visualise and project yourself into the professional and personal life you want.”“Confidence is more attractive than anything you put on your body.”“It just means your talent lies elsewhere, so take the opportunity to seek out what you are good at and find a place where you can flourish. Once you do, you’re gonna kill it.”
“It takes a special kind of stubbornness to succeed as an entrepreneur.”“Clothing is ultimately the suit of armour in which we battle the world.”“Learn early on the motto ‘Know Thyself’. I think if you have a unique point of view and stay relevant and authentic, you will make an impression. You have to be excited and passionate about your ideas to make them work.”“The energy you’ll expend focusing on someone else’s life is better spent working on your own. Just be your own idol.”
“You don’t get taken seriously by asking someone to take you seriously. You’ve got to show up and own it. If this is a man’s world, who cares? I’m still really glad to be a girl in it.”“But difficult doesn’t mean impossible and out of the bazillions of things in this universe that you can’t control, what you can control is how hard you try and if or when to pack it in.”
“I don’t want to spend time thinking about things that don’t want to have a place in my life.”“Opinions are like assholes; everybody’s got one.”
“Abandon anything about your life and habit that might be holding you back. Learn to create your own opportunities. Know that there is no finish line; fortune favours action. Race balls-out towards the extraordinary life that you’ve always dreamed of, or still haven’t had time to dream up. And prepare to have a hell of a lot of fun along the way.”“Create your own job. Become the master of what you do. Fully immerse yourself in your culture. Be humble. You are never above having to pack boxes. Never forget where you came from. And always be polite. Good old-fashion manners can get you very far.”
