Internationally acclaimed pianist, Haiou Zhang, held a one night concert at the Singapore Conference Hall. I had the honour and privilege to attend Haiou Zhang’s first post-pandemic piano recital and exclusive media preview to celebrate Dawn & Sublimation.

Presented by Bechstein Music World, Dawn & Sublimation celebrates the rise of the new dawn and life sublimation post-pandemic to uplift our spirits amid the changes and challenges we faced during trying times.

C. Bechstein was established in 1853 by Carl Bechstein in Berlin, Germany. It was popular before WWII but due to growing anti-German sentiments, German names and music were boycott and changed ownership several times before it was finally revived by a German entrepreneur /banker from the 1980s. Bechstein pianos have always been regarded highly and have re-emerged as one of the finest pianos built.

We enjoyed a performance of 1-2 passage of the Yellow River Piano Concerto on the new Bechstein Concert grand piano specially picked out by Haiou Zhang.

We had a short sharing session with Haiou Zhang. It was such an honour as it was the first ever to be held in Singapore.

Haiou Zhang is a Chinese-German international pianist who started piano lessons at age 9. Two years later he stands out as one of the only 4 (150 in total) candidates to get accepted into the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and graduated in 2002 with special honours. In 2011, he graduated with the best note in the soloist-class at the Hochschule für Musik und Theatre Hannover with Prof. Bernd Goetzke, the last pupil of the legendary pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Haiou Zhang has received wide recognition by critics and audiences in Europe, North and South America and the Far East.

Piano Recital

Dawn & Sublimation was held on 14 May 2022 and tickets were sold-out! Haiou Zhang showcased two compelling compositions in Beethoven 32 piano sonatas, regarded as the originator of the avant-garde in music history. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed the performance and was met with astounding applause.

After the performance, the attendees had the opportunity to have our photos taken with the internationally acclaimed pianist and got our posters and CDs autographed.
