Werner’s Oven Authentic German Delights

Last week, Shine and myself were invited to have a taste of authentic German food right here in Singapore! Being meat lovers, we couldn’t pass off the chance, what more since Oktoberfest is coming up.

Werner’s Oven is a family business and got it’s name from Werner Hochbaum, the founder of this charming restaurant. It all started in 1988 when Werner and his wife, Nancy started a German Bakery on the 1st floor of Parkway Builder’s Centre and three years later, moved to Simpang Bedok where the cafe was added serving their well known Ox-Tail Soup and handmade German sausages. Now, Werner’s Oven is located along Joo Chiat Place where they continue to serve you their signature delicacies using the traditional German method of cooking and baking since 1988.Stepping into Werner’s Oven made us feel like we’re in Germany from the decor complete with classical German folk music. I’ve never been to Germany (I hope to sometime soon) but being here was a sneak peak into what I can expect for our future travel plans. The environment was very homely too. As we were waiting for our orders to arrive, I noticed a few customers come into the restaurant and were being greeted warmly by name indicating that most of the people who patronize Werner’s are regulars. We were served some of Werner’s Oven’s signature dishes and drinks.

Apfel Spritzer $4
Apple Juice and Sparkling Mineral Water
Beef Goulash Soup $9.80
All soups are made from the freshest ingredients. Choice of buttered roll or multigrain toast.
Farmer’s Sausage $25
Course pork sausage with cheese served with mashed potato and sauerkraut.
Knusperiege Schweinehaxe $27.50
Crispy pork knuckle served with sauerkraut and mashed potato.

And of course, have your meal with German Beer! This will be served at Oktoberfest Night (see promotion below).I was really drawn to the bakery because I saw some customers fill their trays with cute little bread from my childhood fairytale books! It was a treat to see traditional bread, pastries and even confectionaries from Germany. Take your pick from pies, pretzels to my favourite – the Gingerbread man. Both Shine and myself really had a very good meal and loved the intimate atmosphere of the restaurant. It was a shame we didn’t get the chance to meet the lovely Auntie Nancy who was very sweet to me over the phone, but it’s ok, we’ll meet soon. Thank you for bringing a piece of Germany to our little island Singapore for the locals to experience and also for our German friends to make them feel right at home. Looking forward to my next visit here at Werner’s Oven.
