Silks Place Tainan is a 5-star hotel that is inspired by the ancient Silk Road where East met West. Located in Taiwan’s oldest capital, Silks Place Tainan incorporates 400 years of Tainan’s culture and history with today’s modern concept. From it’s Dutch Colonial rule since the 1600s to the Qing Dynasty and it’s time under the Imperial Japanese, you can see the historical influence in Silks Place Tainan‘s architecture, style and culture.

Amenities

Upon entering Silks Place Tainan, you will be greeted by decorations of drums, wild boars and bats around the lobby, hallways and restaurants.
The drums represent the art of traditional drumming and folklore in Taiwan with deep cultural, ecological and historical significance. The Formosan Boars are native to Taiwan and bats symbolise good luck in Chinese culture. It was amazing to see so much heart and personality put into it’s design.

Silks Lounge

The Silks Lounge is open to guests who are staying in the rooms on the Silks Floors (level 12 – 24). French-Tuileries is served during Afternoon Tea and they also provide halal dishes (pre-order is required).

Outdoors

It was quite clear that this was everyone’s favourite spot during this awesome weather. The outdoor swimming pool was swarming with locals and tourists alike! I heard that a Taiwanese Celebrity Couple got married right here in this spot and I can see why. Spacious and gorgeous view all around.

Junior Family Suite

I stayed at the Junior Family Suite which was huge and it comes with this nice tatami sitting area where you can look out the window and enjoy tea, very zen. The view of the pool is quite clear from here too! It has a lot of cosy seating spaces around the room which is really suitable for a family.

Look, I’m on TV again! Thank you Silks Place Tainan team for the lovely gesture. I had a very restful time here because it was our last hotel stay during the trip and we had a bit more time to chill before heading back to Singapore. I spent it catching up on my precious sleep and soaking in the spacious bathtub (I think you know where to find me by this point, lol).

Dining
Robin’s Grill & Teppan

During my stay here, I primarily had my meals here at Robin’s Grill which serves the following.
- Salad Bar
- Dessert Bar
- Premium Grill Steak
- Seasonal Seafood Set
- Teppanyaki

I had my breakfast from the buffet counter that serves a wide selection of dishes from western and local delights. The presentation was uniquely decorated and inviting and the food was so good, they got snapped up so fast and was constantly being topped up.

For dinner, we had the Summer Set Menu at Robin’s Teppanyaki where we were seated at a independent box for private dining while interacting with the chef as you watch him put up a show as he prepares your food.

- Atu Fried Fish, Marinated Tuna and Sea Horse
- King Oyster Mushroom
- Mud Eel with Butter and Mashed Yam
- Mushroom with Crab Filling and Zucchini
- Japanese Wagyu Beef
- Eel with Sansho Fried Rice
- Dried Seafood Stew Soup
- Summer Wagashi
Glass House

If you’re up for drinks, head over to the Glass House by the pool. As you can see, there was a tall 108 Shot Tower waiting for our arrival.

It’s also known as the Clock Tower to residents in Tainan. Since August 31 2022, T-Bar, under the Silks Hotel Group umbrella, opened it’s doors in the Old Tainan Magistrate Residence.

Chahui Governor’s Mansion, No. 1 Weimin Street, East District, Tainan City, Taiwan 701

Opening Hours:

T-Bar serves a unique cocktail menu consisting of fresh fruits, sundaes and coffee. They were all delicious but I didn’t want to risk flying home drunk!
There is a lot to see around this century old building that it deserves it’s own post which will be coming soon. As a history and museum buff, I definitely see myself coming back to Tainan. I’m pleasantly surprise to learn that the night life and bar culture here in this ancient city is so happening! Definitely need to spend more time in Tainan.
