Held in partnership with the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, Rose Romance at Gardens by the Bay is inspired by the Italian Countryside celebrating the queen of flowers and my favourite – roses.

It’s been years since I’ve been to Italy and what I remember fondly was the beautiful landscape and architecture. I remembered telling myself how much I wish Shine was with me to experience it. One of my biggest dream is to travel around Italy with Shine for a month long holiday. We had to hold all those plans when we got our home and Baeley. Then, the pandemic hit and we had to live off our savings. We didn’t know how long the pandemic was going to last so to curb my wanderlust, I took inspiration from Italian Gardens to slowly transform my balcony garden.

Roses, literature and the Italian Countryside right here in Singapore? Sounds like a perfect date.

There were varieties of roses I’ve never seen before! I was particularly amused by the climbing ones as you can’t find them here. They were so big and beautiful, I hope I can grow my roses like that someday. Besides roses, there were many other countryside flowers like Asters, Heucheras and Salvias, which I love so much but they’re so hard to grow here in tropical Singapore. Nevertheless, I left feeling inspired.

The borders may be open now but many of us are still recovering from the pandemic. We may not be able to travel to Italy for now but is nice to have a piece of Italy come to us.
