“Are you sure you want to wear white?”, the lady at the studio asked.
I hesitated… then said yes. As the makeup kept piling on, I started questioning my decision but reminded myself to trust my vision and the process.
After makeup, we took a Didi to Xi’an City Wall. I had barely started my first shots when a massive storm hit. We hid under a tunnel as the water rose to my socks, until someone asked, “Sister, do you dare to run with us to the toilet?”
I looked at the rain, looked at the water rushing around my feet and went 👌🏽. So – in an enormous white Hanfu, sword in hand, using a light reflector for shelter – running through the storm as banners flew around us and the crew shouted, “Sister, wait me!” 😂
We made it to the toilet safely and waited for over an hour. I later heard that many photoshoots had been cancelled that day but ours said he would honour our booking and continue for as long as we wanted. And we did.
Once the storm passed, we went back out onto the wet ground, slightly damp and finished what we started. And the results? I am beyond happy!
Thank you for your professionalism, patience and stunning work @sheyingshichuichui. This has become one of my core memories from Xi’an and a reminder to trust the process.
