What to Consider Before You Purchase

  • Is this your first visit to London?
  • How long are you visiting London for?
  • When are you visiting London?
  • Do you like visiting museums or attending tours?
  • Do you have young children with you?

An Introduction to London

If this is your first time to London, The London Pass will be a great way to see some of the biggest and most iconic paid attractions in London. I will also consider getting The London Pass if you only have a short time in London and want to see as much of the city as possible as The London Pass gives you faster access compared to buying a ticket at the counter. Take note that if you’re visiting during late Autumn to Winter, the days are shorter and most attractions closes by 4pm so it saves you time to enter the attraction with The London Pass instead of waiting in queues.

Many Tourist Attractions in London are Free

You’ll be surprised to learn that many of the major attractions in London have free entry such as The British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum and The National History Museum (child-friendly). So be sure to check the entry details of the attractions or museums you’d like to visit before you purchase The London Pass.

The London Pass with Young Children

As I was planning my itinerary for London, I was simultaneously looking out for attractions my young niece could visit should we consider getting The London Pass for her. However, the only places on the list that would probably keep a young child entertained are the London Zoo, The Cartoon Museum and Cutty Sark? If these are priorities on your list, I suggest you compare the entry prices or take a 2 day pass if you are going to London exclusively for your children.

The London Pass: Is it Worth it?

If it is your first time to London, you may want to purchase the Oyster Visitor Card along with The London Pass as it covers most of the public transportations in London including the iconic London buses, London Underground, London Overground and DLR (Dockland Light Rail) and you get cheaper fares compared to buying a paper ticket. There is a sum of 20 added to the card upon your purchase and you can top it up at ticket machines, or at Oyster Ticket Stops located throughout London. We took the bus around London frequently to get around London during our time there, it was the easiest way to commute and experience London.

The Oyster Visitor Card also does not have an expiry date so you can start using it at any time and if you have any remaining balance, you can use it for your next trip to London.

Everything You Need in The London Pass App

Once you’ve made your purchase, activate The London Pass to explore over 90 attractions in London. If you’ve made your purchase with an Oyster Card, you will be sent your Oyster Card via snail mail with The London Pass details but take note that they no longer send out physical cards or brochures of The London Pass, everything you need are in The London Pass app.

The London Pass is valid for 24 months from the date of booking.

I purchased 2 London Passes together so both passes will appear in 1 app so the rest of your friends or family need not download the app which is especially useful for elderly travel companions who may not be tech-savvy. The app includes a digital guide with the list of attractions available in The London Pass, opening hours, directions, and how to get in.

Upon arrival at the attraction of your choice for the day, just show the QR code on The London Pass app to enter.

The London Pass: Is it Worth it?

Will I purchase The London Pass again?

As it was my first time in London, I decided to get a 3 Day London Pass to cover some of the biggest paid attractions in London, namely Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and the Hop On and Hop Off Bus and spent the remaining days in London exploring the museums that have free entry.

I intend to get The London Pass for my next visit to see Kensington Palace, The Arsenal Stadium, Hampton Court Palace and more. It’s very convenient and it saved me a lot of time in queues with pre-booked tickets already in the app, a digital guide to give me directions and what to look out for in the attractions. An overall smooth and convenient experience and no doubt worth the price.

One response to “The London Pass: Is it Worth it?”

  1. I used this pass a long time ago; I bought the 2 day version. Think I kinda went overboard in my determination to at least breakeven because I could barely walk at the end of everything. (LOL) But it was good value for me, still, and very convenient at some locations.
