Being a makeup junkie, I like to try on different products. But after all the switching and playing around, there are those that you will always fall back on. These are the two products that I have used and cheated on several times but somehow end up coming back to – The Meteorites and Terracotta by Guerlain.

If you haven’t heard, Guerlain is one of my most favourite and trusted cosmetic brands for its long history, the superb quality of the products and the beautifully detailed packaging. Besides Guerlain makeup, I also have a great love for their perfumes like the Allegoria range and of course, one of my personal favourites in my possession, Shalimar.
I have always had a fascination for those ‘pastel coloured balls’ when I got to flip through ‘big girl magazines’ at bookshops as a teenager. I thought to myself that someday, I hope I would be able to buy whatever this thing was just because it looked so pretty.

Later in life, as I started to work and dabble in makeup, I enquired how much the Meteorites were and the price tag shocked me to the core (I was a young adult then and could barely earn enough to eat, let alone buy high end makeup). As time passed and my acne condition became worse, I started focusing more on powder and liquid foundation and the memory of the pastel balls were shoved to the back of my mind.

Years later, after my skin condition got better (and I got older), I was doing the opposite reverse, looking for a face product that isn’t heavy yet will make the skin look luminous. Then, I recalled the pastel balls and thought it was about time I give it a shot. After all, it has always been my makeup goal. I bought the travel size powder and blush to try and instantly fell in love. It was what I have been searching for all my life. In fact, I loved it so much, I changed my makeup routine to compliment it. So when I noticed that I was running low on my travel size version, I decided to invest in the full size. I am now officially a Meteorites convert.

My Meteorites are in the colour Medium 03 in the new formula. The new formula comes in four shades.

01 Blanc de Perle: Asia Exclusive.
02 Clair: Pure Light for Fair Skin.
03 Medium: Tone on Tone Light for Medium Skin.
04 Dore: Warm Light for Golden Skin.

What’s so great about these Meteorites Perles?
Its light texture instantly evens out the skin tone using the Stardust technology – a light-creating polymer, which transforms light invisible to the naked eye into a pure and endless glow on the skin. Combined with corrective coloured pearls – yellow to counter redness, pink for freshness and mauve to catch the light – they light up the face in an illuminating and corrective halo to give endless radiance. It also has a signature scent of violets that I look forward to every time I put on my makeup.

How do I use this?
Guerlain will tell you to use it in their technique which is to draw the letter ‘G’ on your face. But I use it all over my face like I would using any other face powder. You can choose to use the puff it comes with but I rather use it with my Sephora face brush.

Terracotta and me have gone way back. I have literally used Terracotta on and off in my life a few times over especially during my ‘beach bum’ years.

Bronzers use to be almost non-existent in Singapore back then so it was quite a problem for girls like me who wanted the bronze look (although I was fairly dark from all that tanning). So when Sephora reached our shores, I noticed a Guerlain bar and there, Terracotta was staring right back at me. The reddish undertone of the product drew me in added with the almost impossible mission of finding a bronzer, I bought it.

Then came the stage where it was in to be ‘fair’ so my Terracotta sat on my vanity to its expiry date and had to throw it away. The next purchase of yet another Terracotta was the version with four different shades of bronzer and blusher. It was when I started working on the island again and wanted the tan look again and thought it was convenient that that one came with two pink blush shades. I used that one quite well.

As bronzers became more available in Singapore, I was able to try out other brands on a lower price range. However, I still liked the bronzy shade that Terracotta gave me. So once again, I went back to my favourite Guerlain bar at Sephora ION and realize that there was no more display of Terracotta *gasp! I asked the Sephora girls there about it and they informed me that Terracotta is discontinued in Singapore *cries! I guess it isn’t selling well here since the women of this nation are obsessed with looking pale. However, she told me that they have a few pieces left if I didn’t mind and I jumped at it.

Terribly disappointed that my beloved Terracotta that I grew up with won’t be easily available to me anymore. I guess I’ll have to order them online once this one is finished.
