When you think of Hermes, you’d probably think of Birkin and Kelly handbags when in fact, Hermes has been making furniture since the 1920s. At Hermes Through the Walls Exhibition created specially for Singapore, experience the French luxury brand’s home collection of furniture, fabric and wallpaper.The exhibition, inspired by the anarchitecture of Gordon Matta-Clark, showcases everyday objects with Hermes’ fine workmanship (and price tag) of course. I was quite amused each time we passed a door, you could hear a parrot squacking, kids chattering, a cat meowing or someone whistling to Michael Jackson’s Thriller in the shower, lol. I particularly loved the beautiful porcelain plates and how they were made to look unbreakable as they were ‘dragged through the wall’. The furnitures were made in Hermes’ signature equestrian design and they looked like they fit right into any ordinary home showing that luxury can also be functional.

If you’re getting your keys to your new home, have always had a dream to live in a luxury boutique, love art and home decor or simply have $4000 to spend on a throwover for your couch, come by to take inspiration from the exhibit. I should also mention that its free – the exhibition, not the pieces. Oh, and please don’t sit on the furniture, this is not Ikea for heaven’s sake.
