Finally, my very own Clarisonic! I guess I might be one of the last few women on earth to purchase this cult device because I was a little sceptical of it years back when it first launched. “Why would I spend hundreds on a brush to wash my face?”, I asked myself then. Then as it gained popularity, I started to get more and more curious and in the recent months as I was looking to change my cleansing routine, Clarisonic kept popping up in my research. So, I gave in to the cult…
My pick was the Mia II in baby pink that I purchased from Sephora for SGD $220.
My first impression upon unboxing; travel friendly (Mia II comes with a travel case), lightweight, high tech. Being a skin care enthusiast, I couldn’t wait to try it!
Why did you choose to get a Clarisonic when there are so many cheaper alternatives out there?
Simple – for it’s patented sonic frequency technology.
What is patented? It means that the product, in this case, Clarisonic, has the exclusive legal rights to manufacture their invention and no other company can make, use or sell this sonic frequency technology that has made Clarisonic so successful.
As mentioned on clarisonic.com, “The Clarisonic system uses breakthrough technology to make skin look younger, healthier, and more radiant than ever before. Using gentle sonic frequency micro massage waves, it far outperforms manual methods or rotary cleansing devices. That’s why it’s the choice of millions of consumers, notable celebrities, and the #1 solution among skin care professionals everywhere”.
How will it benefit my skin?
Clarisonic claims when used at least once a day, you will see the following benefits:
Optimal Cleansing – cleans 6 times better than traditional cleansing by hands.
Clears Acne – see significant improvements in 2 weeks.
Anti-Aging – improves appearance of mature skin.
Clears Oil – Reduces oily appearance by deep pore cleansing.
Evens Skin Tone – Improvements in dry spots and patchiness.
Radiance – creates glow, brightness and more hydrated skin.
Gentle – Can be used daily.
And all it takes is 60 seconds a day!
How do I use it?
Here is how I use my Clarisonic.
- Remove makeup with makeup remover.
- Squeeze a cleanser on finger tips and lather it with water. Then massage it on face.
- Clarisonic Mia II has 2 speed settings – Normal (Upper LED Light on button) and Low (Lower LED Light on button). The t-timer will start when you switch it on. The total time it works is 60 seconds. In between the wash, it will pause and signal you to switch to a different area of your face.
Note: Gently wash face with Clarisonic, no need to press the life out of your skin.
- 20 seconds – Forehead
- 20seconds – Nose and Chin
- 10 seconds – Cheek 1
- 10 seconds – Cheek 2
Clarisonic recommends you use twice daily. However, I chose to start with just once a day first and on the low setting so as not to ‘shock’ my skin too much.
Please note that you should charge your Clarisonic for 24hours before using it and although the Clarisonic can be used in the shower, its charger cannot. So please do not die in idiocy. To charge, just stick the magnetic charger to the handle.
How often do I change the brush head?
It is best you change the brush head every 3 months as the bristles become fatigue and less effective. Once a week, remove the brush head from the handle and rinse with warm soapy water to remove any residue build up.
Remove Brush Head: Grip firmly then push and twist counter clockwise. Pull head from handle.
Attach Brush Head: Push down and twist the head clockwise until it snaps into place.
There are a variety of brush heads to choose from according to your skin type and preference. Note that Clarisonic comes with the Sensitive brush head. I will write about the different brush heads on a separate post.Prior to my purchase, I have read a number of reviews regarding their skin’s reaction towards the use of Clarisonic. Some users go through a purging phase where pimples will start to come out as the sonic waves will push out all the impurities before it starts getting better. However, how long each person goes through the purging phase varies according to their skin.
Wanna know how my skin reacts to the Clarisonic? Updates on My Skincare Report will be coming up on the blog.
I hope you found this helpful and I look forward to writing more reviews on the other beauty products I’ve researched and recently purchased. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try my best to answer them for you. Till the next report.
